African Youth Summit

13 November 2025

I recently had the opportunity to join young African Australians from across Western Sydney for the inaugural African Youth Summit, with the theme "I See Me Thriving". The focus of the summit was empowerment and employment pathways. It brought people together to celebrate resilience, potential and opportunity, and connected young people with role models, mentors and practical support. The summit featured interactive workshops and youth leadership panels with young achievers in sport, arts, academia and business. It also enabled community and school engagement, especially for those at risk of disengagement, ensuring early intervention and inclusion. The young people who organised and ran the summit were ably supported by the African Australian Advocacy Centre and my colleague Minister Jihad Dib. The member for Granville and the member for Leppington also attended. I truly believe that this generation of young people has more to contend with than any other generation, with intergenerational friction as well as identity and social media issues accompanying all the other challenges of being young. I wish them well.
