Bangladesh Medical Society Gala Night

13 May 2026

I rise to recognise the ongoing contributions of the Bangladesh Medical Society of New South Wales and acknowledge the success of its Annual Dinner and Gala Night 2026, held recently at Liverpool Catholic Club. Established in 2010, the Bangladesh Medical Society of NSW has grown into a respected, apolitical, non-denominational and non-profit organisation representing more than 500 Bangladeshi-origin medical practitioners across New South Wales. Across Australia, more than 1,600 Bangladeshi-origin doctors now serve our communities, including currently practising across various specialties at Liverpool Hospital and in our community. This year's Gala Night brought together nearly 550 guests and stands as one of the largest gatherings of Bangladeshi doctors ever organised in our state. I acknowledge the leadership and dedication of President Dr Mehdi Farhan, General Secretary Dr Rokeya Fakir Keya, Cultural Secretary Dr Sheikh Badruddoja Shiplu, and the wider Executive Committee, Advisory Council, and Benevolent Fund Committee. Bangladeshi-origin doctors make an extraordinary contribution to Australia's healthcare system through general practice, hospital medicine, surgery, research, teaching, rural health, and community outreach. The Society's commitment to multiculturalism, professional excellence, mentoring, and culturally sensitive healthcare continues to strengthen both our healthcare system and our broader community.
