It is heartbreaking to note that 37 per cent of people experiencing homelessness are children and young people. Last year alone, more than 13,300 unaccompanied children aged 12 to 17 sought assistance from specialist homelessness services. These figures, while sobering, highlight the critical importance of the work carried out by dedicated youth homelessness organisations like CORE. The work of CORE's Youth Services team, who provide essential support to young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness across south-west Sydney, including through the youth refuge in Liverpool, is vital. Recently, the Hon. Rose Jackson, Minister for Housing, and I had the opportunity to visit CORE's Youth Services. Our visit coincided with their annual Christmas decorations—an initiative that brings light, hope, and a sense of belonging to young people during what can be a difficult time of year. I extend my sincere thanks to the entire CORE Youth Services team. Case workers: Lucy Wong, Katrina Azzopardi, Anne Shafiq, Sara Al Kissa, Emilia Abarca, Teresa Chaing, Natasha Mladenovic, Daniela Molina, and the ISP Manager Lisa Thompson. Their commitment, compassion, and tireless efforts are changing the trajectory of young lives and strengthening our community.
