Hexa Films Movie Night

05 February 2026

Cinema is not just about making people dream; it is about changing the way they think. However, it can be a long and difficult process for filmmakers to create and release their works to the public. I recently attended a very special screening featuring three short films in English and Malayalam at Liverpool Event Cinemas. With almost every scene filmed in New South Wales, the event celebrated cultural representation and the richness of lived experience within our community. I commend the creative team behind ECHO, DECLINE and Mannil Maranjavar, which together represent the culmination of a year-long creative journey grounded in collaboration, diversity and community storytelling. The films are more than artistic works; they are powerful explorations of themes as broad as mental illness, grief and dementia, which cut across the human experience and connect people of any cultural or linguistic backgrounds. It is incredible that the group Hexa Films started as friends who just wanted to tell stories and did so with minimal government support. I congratulate everyone involved on their dedication, creativity and commitment to amplifying voices.
