Community centres are vital, inclusive hubs that foster social cohesion, combat loneliness and enhance wellbeing by providing safe spaces for connection, learning, and support. This is especially true for women from diverse backgrounds who may not have strong social networks. Tonight I recognise the work of Learner Place Community Centre, which brings together women and children from many walks of life. The work it does is entirely self-funded and driven by a desire to bring connection and support. Whether this is through a weekly breakfast, opportunities for women to connect with groups and institutions that can provide support, celebrations of significant events or support for women-led small businesses, Learner Place has been making a difference for almost 20 years. Now located in the Liverpool CBD, I had the pleasure of joining them for a very special celebration. What a delight it was to also celebrate a wedding at the same time! I acknowledge the hard work of President Rawasy Al Zubaidi, the original powerhouse Alia Al Wady and Nadiyh Hassan in making a difference for our community.
