It is an absolute joy to finally celebrate the opening of the new-look McGirr Park in Miller. On a beautiful morning this past weekend, the community gathered to officially open the upgraded, accessible children's playground and brand-new outdoor gym. This project is a wonderful addition to Miller, providing families, young people, and residents of all ages with safe, modern, and inclusive spaces to enjoy. What makes this upgrade especially meaningful is that it was designed in consultation with members of the 2168 Children's Parliament from 2022, because of their advocacy. These young leaders strongly pushed for safe and accessible public spaces in the 2168 area, and their voices have shaped a facility that will benefit our community for years to come. Special shout out to Hannah, who's winning bid laid the foundation for the park. I especially thank Safaa, Carmelo, Alexa, and Rifah for sharing powerful reflections on what this project means to them. Their passion and ideas are the reason our community now enjoys this fantastic new park. Congratulations to the Children's Parliament Class of 2022, Liverpool Council's Shaieste Heidari and the Mission Australia team – your work will enable generations of children to thrive!
