Sari Workshop

04 February 2026

I would like to recognise a wonderful community event recently held at the Liverpool Powerhouse, the Fusion Sari Design Workshop. This workshop brought together members of our community for a hands on celebration of culture, creativity, and connection. Led by artist Anjum Olmo, participants were guided through traditional sari design and creative techniques that honour cultural heritage while encouraging personal expression. Events like this matter. They create space for people to slow down, learn from one another, and connect across generations and backgrounds through art. It was especially heartening to see how inclusive and welcoming the workshop was, with everyone encouraged to participate, create, and share stories. I was so pleased to lead an impromptu sari draping lesson, to guide the participants on how their creations would be worn. It capped off a warm and collaborative morning. I commend Anjum Olmo for her generosity in sharing her skills and culture, and the Liverpool Powerhouse for continuing to support programs that celebrate diversity, creativity, and community participation.
