I love meeting with our community's hidden gems, especially those who have seen Liverpool evolve over time. One of those wonderful locals is Violet Cochrane, who recently celebrated her ninetieth birthday. After receiving a birthday card from me, she stopped by my office to discuss plans to upgrade Ireland Park. The park is particularly significant for Violet because of her family's longstanding connection to Liverpool Rangers Soccer Club, with her late husband, Peter, serving as president for three years and her sons, Bernard and Anthony, playing for Rangers. She also took the opportunity to share her ideas about improving traffic, accessibility and green space in that area of our city, reflecting on the enormous changes Liverpool has undergone over the decades. Violet shared her concerns about protecting our environment and her desire to see more courtesy and respect between people. Throughout our conversation, I was struck by Violet's humility, her love for Liverpool and her ongoing advocacy for our local community. It is easy to see why she was made an Officer of the Order of Liverpool in 2000 for her contributions. I am truly grateful for people like Violet.
